Md. Residents Fight To Stop Maintenance Man From Being Deported

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- Hundreds of residents of a North Bethesda high-rise are trying to prevent the deportation of their maintenance man and the world is taking notice.

"This is our Antonio -- our friend, our helper, our engineer and he needed our help, our support," said Marcia Weinberg, a member of the board of managers at Wisconsin condominium.

When 9NEWS NOW sent Gary Nurenberg to Nicholson Lane Thursday night to get the story, he had to stand in line.

The crew from Telemundo Thursday night was listening to Marco Antonio Rua tell his story. The BBC had just left.

Marco Antonio Rua's petition for permanent residency has been denied. He came here 15 years ago but because of legalities, "My mom and my brother will go to Peru; my dad and myself will go to Spain," shared his daughter Andrea.

Condoms Connected To Your Character?

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- "Join The Rubber Revolution." It's an attention-grabbing website title the DC Department of Health hopes lures people to practice safe sex, in a city marred by its staggering HIV rates.

The site is in seven different languages, including Spanish, French and even Chinese. However, the message is the same in every dialect: use condoms, prevent the spread of disease and unwanted pregnancies.

www.rubberrevolutiondc.com also has quirky quizzes, seemingly unrelated to a person's sex life. For example, the "What Kind of Condom Are You?" quiz asks you questions about how you order food at a restaurant.

Giving Thanks

WHS has a lot to be thankful for this year. We have found forever homes for thousands of pets, we have a dedicated staff of animal lovers, plus we have generous donors and wonderful volunteers and partners who support us year round. But what we are most thankful for are the animals. They are the life blood of this organization and now it’s our turn to give thanks to them for enriching our lives.

Please join us in giving thanks to these wonderful shelter animals. Here’s what you can do:

Running with the PACK

The rain and drizzle did not put a damper on the spirits of more than twenty Department of Labor (DOL) employees who, on Tuesday, November 16, participated in their second P.A.C.K. (People & Animals Cardio Klub) walk/run around the Nation's Capitol.  As part of the Obama administration’s "Feds Get Fit" program, the DOL employees spent their lunch hour on a PACK walk with WHS dogs available for adoption.  It was  a refreshing two mile trek near the National Mall.
