Area Residents Support More Cooperation and Regional Planning on Issues

Despite general satisfaction with their overall quality-of-life, a majority of Metropolitan Washington residents want stronger regional accountability on long-range planning decisions by our area leaders, according to a comprehensive survey of residents from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia released today.  Further, according to the non-profit organization that commissioned the survey, the 2030 Group, residents are willing to consider new models of regional cooperation to tackle issues such as transportation and housing and their greater impact on the entire the Washington area. 

This Weekend WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC Offering Tours All Over the City

Cultural Tourism DC celebrates the history and heritage of Washington, DC with the Fall Edition of WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26. This two-day event of DC features guided tours in all eight wards of the city. Healthy for both body and mind, this weekend of more than 100 free walking and biking tours allows visitors and residents to explore both new and familiar places throughout the city. From the well-known to the unfamiliar, tour topics explore all things DC, including neighborhood history, art, community heritage, environmental initiatives, and much more. 


Montgomery County Executive Isaiah Leggett to Celebrate Completion of Pedestrian Safety Improvements

This story comes to us from Esther Bowring about a safety announcement and event that will affect Friendship Heights as well as the greater Chevy Chase community:

On Tuesday, September 21 at 10 a.m., Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will announce pedestrian safety improvements for the Chevy Chase area in the Rock Creek Shopping Center at 8325 Grubb Road. 

The improvements are for the area across from Rock Creek Forest Elementary School on Grubb Road that is enhancing safety not only for children, but for the entire community. 

The innovative pedestrian protection improvement installed has successfully been used by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) in other locations and has proven to be very effective in reducing motorist speeds, calming traffic and enhancing safety.  The school is located across the street from the Rock Creek Shopping Center, which is a popular destination for students and residents.

Friendship Heights Local Headed for Primetime TV

Steuart Martens, who many Friendship Heights locals might recognize from the Martens Volvo Volkswagen dealership on Wisconsin Avenue, is taking his act national.

This Thursday, September 16, Martens will begin his quest to become Donald Trump's "Apprentice", on NBC. 

Martens is 27 years old.  In addition to the dealership, Martens is involved in the On the Fly food-cart company, and he also owns Tradewinds Speciality Imports, a wine distribution company.

21st Annual Taste of Bethesda

The 21st annual Taste of Bethesda is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2010!
Held at Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle, Bethesda's famous food and music festival brings 50 restaurants and four stages of entertainment.

More than 40,000 attendees sample the appetizing restaurants, enjoy the live entertainment and visit the kid's corner for face painting and cookie decorating.

Admission / Tickets
Admission to the Taste of Bethesda is free. Taste tickets will be sold on-site in bundles of four tickets for $5. Food servings cost one to four tickets.

The event is held along Norfolk, Fairmont, St. Elmo, Cordell and Del Ray Avenues in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle. Taste of Bethesda is located just three blocks from the Bethesda Metro.

The annual Taste of Bethesda is held in conjunction with Best of Bethesda Day, which also features Come Back to Bethesda classic car show and Rescue Day.
