WUSA 9 celebrates 20 years of Buddy Check 9
News

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Wednesday we're celebrating 20 years of Buddy Check 9!

Tuesday, WUSA9's Andrea Roane had the honor of standing alongside breast cancer survivors and supporters in Prince George's County. The county issued a proclamation WUSA9 and Buddy Check 9 for its community service as it recognized Breast Cancer Awareness month.

In honor of the month firefighters were there wearing pink shirts and some of them will be seen around the county in a pink fire engine.

Survivors were honored and council chair member Ingrid Turner reminded everyone to be proactive when it comes to their breast health.

"We hope that in our lifetime we'll find a cure for cancer, but if we don't find a cure, what's the best way to make sure we have survivors? One of the best ways is early detection," said Turner.

Wednesday, we spend part of our morning talking about early detection with  George Washington Medical Faculty and Associates. We talked about what happens when you're on the Mammovan, what happens if something is found during your mammogram, and more.
