Carolyn Wilson and Elizabeth Boland of Design in a Day in Bethesda, MD, www.designinadaydc.com, are taking on Space 14, the Second Floor Foyer in this year’s DC Design House. “The opportunity to completely transform and redesign a space together as a mother-daughter team has always been a goal of ours,” says Wilson, “and doing this project for Children’s National Medical Center makes it even more rewarding.”

Designers are mixing new and old in this year’s DC Design House to give the spacious home warmth and character. For instance, Sharon Kleinman of Transitions in Potomac, MD, http://www.4transitions.com, designed a custom bench for Space 11, the Master Bedroom. “I use modern pieces such as the custom bench with acrylic base and combine it with an antique black lacquer wedding chest,” says Kleinman, who is thrilled to be able to use her work as an interior designer to support such a wonderful cause.

For Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey of SCW Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.scwinteriors.com, being included as one of the designers in the 2012 DC Design House is “the most prestigious invitation for a designer.” But it also means sprinting to the finish line. “Being selected to design for the showhouse is a bit like being crowned homecoming queen then having to run a marathon in your ball gown while collecting items for a scavenger hunt,” Cavin-Winfrey says. It’s also one of the highlights of one’s career, she notes.

Showhouse veteran Kelley Proxmire of Kelley Interior Design in Bethesda, MD, www.kelleyinteriordesign.com, who has participated in 21 showhouses over the past 11 years, says it’s still exciting to be selected. “I really feel honored to be a part of this fundraising event,” Proxmire says. “Children’s National Medical Center is a very deserving organization and should hopefully receive much needed funds from the DC Design House.”

The Cribline House Pick of the Week – March 11, 2012

Warm greetings Cribline readers:

This was another busy week with crowds of people attending open houses. Daylight savings didn’t seem to dissuade anyone from getting out on the town on this Spring-like sunny day.

The Cribline House Pick of the Week

The Cribline House Pick of the Week

Warm greetings Cribline readers.

We were back to our tour of DC this week, after a little retreat in Rappahannock County, VA last week for President’s Day weekend.  And, if I didn’t know better, with all of the people out house hunting this weekend, I would have thought that we were back in the 2006 peak of the housing market.
