5 Winter Boots for Men

5 Winter Boots for Men

Like much of the Northeast, DC got hit hard by winter storms yesterday. Bundling up and preparing to go out in the cold is of great importance, especially when it comes to shoes. (Have you slipped on that ice? Ouch! It's brutal!). Here are 5 different winter boot options to get guys through the next part of winter.

1. For the Winter Sports Guy

In what has to be one of the greatest innovations ever for the winter shoe, this Columbia Bugathermo Boot is heated. Yup, it contains a heating system with rechargeable batteries. It's also waterproof and has a temperature display on the exterior of the boot.

2. For the Urban Cowboy

This X-Lace Boot by John Varvatos has a rough and tumble feel. It's currently on sale at Neiman Marcus for $359, down from its original $789 price tag.

3. For the Guy Who Likes to Mix it Up

Send a Fashionable Hello

Send a Fashionable Hello

Have you ever opened your mailbox to find a handwritten note? The act of sending a card in the mail is a blissful event for both the writer and receiver. Hanna Nation, owner of the stationary business GADABOUT, is making sure her clients say hello in style. In this interview we talk with Hanna about her ties to DC, her inspirations, and how her stationary is merging with technology.

You have received coverage in DC publications like Capital Hill Style, Inspiration DC, and most recently with The Washingtonian. Any guesses to why your work has struck a chord with a DC audience?

Your One Fashion Resolution for 2011

Your One Fashion Resolution for 2011

If you only have one fashion resolution for the New Year, let it be this: only buy things that make you feel fantastic. It may sound simplistic, but many times people purchase things that they are just "eh" about. Sometimes those purchases are made for very practical reasons - lack of time / money / energy, or it is just difficult to find clothing that fits correctly. But, one purchase that is just "okay" leads to more purchases that "will do"....and that leads to an entire closet of "meh" clothing. It's one of the reasons people can have an entire closet full of clothes, yet feel like they have nothing to wear.

You know you’re a Washingtonian If……

You know you’re a Washingtonian If……

John Kelly, Washington Post Staff Writer, wrote an article a few weeks ago asking us to test our knowledge about the DC area.  Kelly asks questions ranging from how the northern snakeheads got in a Crofton pond to what outfit was the hatchet wielding man attacking motorists and others in Fairfax County was wearing.  As one who was born and raised in Washington, DC, I pretty much failed the test.

Resort Wear 2011

Resort Wear 2011

It's hard to think about short sleeves, blouses, and sundresses while there is still snow on the ground, but the latest designer Resort Wear lines are now available.

Resort Wear was originally marketed to people who were going to spend December and January traveling to warm, tropical climates. Now it is seen as a year-round look that is especially useful to those who live in sunny parts of the United States and abroad.

As we sit in DC wrapped in layers of clothing and wearing accessories like mittens and faux fur hats, it's nice to take a break and imagine sunshine and mild breezes.

Here's a look at one of my favorite pieces from the Alice + Olivia Resort line. It's called the Denim Roxanna Bustier Dress and it retails for $297. I love that bright green color on such a classic shape!

Are you one of the lucky ones that will be traveling somewhere warm in the coming weeks? If so, do tell!

Attend the Red Carpet Premiere of Collide

Collide, the new motion picture from DMV filmmaker Master June Daguiso, will premiere this Sunday at the Burke Theater. Collide will have its red carpet premiere this Sunday December 19 with showings at 11AM and 2PM. As of this writing, the 11AM showing is nearly sold out. Tickets are $15, but contact me for info on how to get in for half price.
