(STORY AND PHOTOS BY JORDAN SANDMAN): On a hot July day with a heat index of 94˚, Zburger of Tenleytown held its 4th annual Independence Burger Eating Contest.

Despite sweaty conditions, 4 time winner Peter “Furious Pete” Czerwinski shoved down 15 burgers in 10 minutes. The contest was a sight to see as contestants dunked their burgers in water and stuffed them down their throats as quickly as they could.

Dale “Mouth of the South” Boone came in second, successfully downing 12 patties. He is known for his jean-suspenders and has been runner-up in the contest for the past 4 years, unable to top Furious Pete.

Last year, the two almost got in a scuffle after Czerwinski accused Boone of cheating. This year, the contest went smoothly as Czerwinski defended his title for the 4th time.Take a look at these photos from the event.
